What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energetic balancing modality, originally developed in Tibet, many thousands of years ago. During the 1800's, Reiki was reintroduced into the world again, this time by a Japanese doctor, Dr. Mikao Usui.

A Reiki practitioner is only a conduit for the delivery of "Universal Life Force Energy." Practitioners are utilizing the client's energy field, to effectively restore balance and homeostasis to the body. To date, the primary outcomes of studied research have used measures for pain, anxiety, depression, stress, heart rate, blood pressure, salivary cortisol, as well as, job burnout and other chronic health concerns. Basically, all energy work affects the subtle energy body fields that may then manifest changes on the physical plane.

What does a Reiki session consist of?

Typically, a Reiki session is completed in a specific timeframe, usually 45 minutes. Your practitioner will utilize the last 15 minutes of your session to document your actual experience of the energy session. The application of Reiki is a stress relieving, calming and healing modality, using noninvasive, light, hands-on touch. Your practitioner places their hands in a series of locations on or over the body. Placement of hands are never intrusive or inappropriate.

What happens after a Reiki session?

Although most clients typically feel refreshed after experiencing a Reiki healing session, some clients may notice feeling a bit more tired than usual. This is not to be looked at as an adverse reaction, but rather the body's natural healing response. Quite commonly, immediately after a session, most clients report a complete sense of calmness and relaxation, while others observe a feeling of mental clarity. Clients frequently report, sleeping very well the evening after a Reiki session.

How many Reiki healing sessions should I receive?

Your practitioner may suggest a series of sessions. Having four sessions is a traditional recommendation and gives you time to evaluate what benefits you are receiving. Discuss with your practitioner, how best to space your sessions, to meet your specific needs and desires.
